Round three of the BPL was underway at Ivor Marsden Memorial Park, as the Bayside Pirates were still looking for their first win of the BPL and the Darling Dingoes had already clinched a place in the BPL finals and were fighting for a first place finish.
The Pirates launched an early siege on the Dingoes as Charlie Henderson picked up 2 consecutive wickets in the opening over. The attack from the Pirates continued as this time Rowan Lutter picked up the wicket of Aryan Jain in the second over to take the score to 3/6 after 2 overs. Micheal Topp and Isaiah Snell rescued the Dingoes after an early collapse. The pair didn’t do it discreetly either, with Micheal Topp hitting some monster sixers and getting 6 boundaries altogether and Isaiah Snell hitting 3 boundaries in row. The pair got a much needed partnership of 63 off just 30 deliveries. They both fell cheaply though, and in the space of 5 balls, as Topp skyed one to keeper Claye Beams for 37 and Snell was caught on the boundary after a knee high full toss by Connor Ahpene. The flag was sailing high for the Pirates as they were once again on top of Dingoes with another 2 quick wickets. This time from Brandon Honeybrook, who got the dangerous Sam Truloff for 16, and captain Steve McGiffin for 26. It seemed to be a recurring theme for the Dingoes, losing multiple wickets in a short space of time. James McNeil showed his experience by bowling a maiden over in the 16th over of the innings and the pressure was building up on the Dingoes. Some great bowling by the Pirates in the dying overs restricted the Dingoes to 134.
The Pirates had high hopes going into their last innings of the inaugural BPL, as they had been set a below par score on field 2 after nearly 370 runs had been
scored in the game before. It was a conserative start for the Pirates , only needing 135 for victory. Brandon Honeybrook led the way for Pirates early and was looking in good touch. It seemed to be a recurring theme in the match of losing multiple wickets at once. This time the Pirates were on the end of it with Honeybrook out for 26 . Four balls later Nathan Murray was also gone for 16, leaving the Pirates without both openers, as Zachary Beveridge got both of them out. Beveridge striked again with the wicket of Andrew Micheal for a 0, and yet again with Logan Duval for 7. Mitch Doolan joined the party, after he bowled captain Claye Beams out for 3, and the Pirates were 5/44 after 8.1 overs. Saveen Nanayakkara put on a bit of magic, getting two quick wickets in 1 over and the hopes for the Pirate’s first win was diminishing quickly. A late push by Sunam Gautam and Rowan Lutter kept the game alive for the Pirates, until Brendan McNae sealed the victory for the Dingoes. Mcnae got the wicket of Lutter for 18 and also only conceded 2 runs in the 19th over. In the end the Dingoes showed the class, taking the victory by 16 runs.
