Game eleven of the inaugural Brisbane Premier League was the battle of the west, with the Darling Dingoes taking on the Western Power. Two star studded teams featured the likes of Steven McGiffin and Sam Truloff, along with Harry Wood and Michael Sippel lining up for their respective sides. Skipper Harry Wood won the toss for the Power and chose to bat.
The unlucky dismissal of Harry Wood was the catalyst of a top order collapse for the Power. With a defensive shot that saw the ball drop at his feet and roll towards the stumps, Wood almost saved himself but ultimately chopped on to his stumps and was out. A brilliant caught & bowled from Saveen Nanayakkara removed Dylan McLaughlan and the Power were in trouble at 4/37. Experience came to the fore with Michael Sippel steadying the ship with 31 runs from 30 balls.
“We’re obviously not where we wanted to be, I thought 140 was what we wanted” said Wood, who highlighted wickets in the powerplay as the key to defending their total of 108.
Donal Whyte struck early for the Power removing Chris Gillam, but it was opener Brandon Faber and Sam Truloff doing the bulk of the damage in the chase. The pair struck 47 and 33 respectively, ensuring the Dingoes a successful run chase. Steve McGiffin credited Faber and Truloff for the Dingoes win.
“We got off to a good start in both innings and Sam Truloff batted really well again, Faber came in nicely and put in a really good platform” said McGiffin.
The Dingoes won their clash with the Power by 7 wickets with six overs and two balls remaining, securing the bonus point.
