Match Report Round 2 Seniors: Darling Dingoes vs Northern Kings

The last timeslot of the day provided a match up that everyone was waiting to see. The Darling Dingoes had just come off a dominant display against the Power and the Northern Kings in what some have called an upset loss to the Moreton Magic in the game before.

The Dingoes won the toss and elected to bowl first. In true Northern Kings form, there were fireworks from the get-go thanks to both Andrew Gode and Josh Brown. A quickfire 38 off 21 ensured the Kings had set a solid platform taking 62 off their first 29 balls.

Runs continued to flow. Josh Brown stood up and proved why he was one of the most anticipated talents of BPL|01 before a ball was bowled. His mammoth effort and record-breaking knock of 108 off 55 balls (8 boundaries and 9 sixes) was a sight to behold and had fielders regularly chasing balls from neighbouring ovals or plucking balls out of creek beds and shrubbery.

Some additional clean hitting from Jack Cooper (27 off 13) and Sam Wilson (27 off 15) ensured that the Kings charged to a mammoth 6/229 off their 20 overs.

Chasing down 230 was going to take some performance by the Dingoes, and both openers Aryan Jain (26 off 17) and Brandon Faber (55 off 24) didn’t die wondering. A superb opening stand with a flurry of sixes saw the Dingoes well poised scoring 82 off their first 6 overs and somehow well within a chase that most people thought would be impossible to pull off.

The Dingoes looked to build off the strong showing with their star-studded middle order of Truloff, McGiffin and Maher all capable of clearing the ropes. Unfortunately, the key wickets of these 3 all falling relatively cheap with Truloff going for 19 off 18, McGiffin bowled by Joe Pratt for a duck off 2 balls and Blake Maher falling cheaply as well for 2 off 4 meant there was a bit of work to do.

Unfortunately, the Dingoes fell short being restricted to 9/182 off their 20 overs, but certainly did not lose any fans with their run chasing efforts. A very entertaining match for all involved and some seriously good cricket played.
