Match Report Round 1 Seniors: Darling Dingoes vs Coastal Marlins

Game three of round one saw the Darling Dingos coming off a win and taking on the Coastal Marlins.
In a contest that boasted first grade talent in both sides, the Coastal Marlins won the toss and elected to bat.

Losing skipper Zac Keune early, Josh Matthews went to work making batting look easy.

“I struggled a bit early… but as it went on it (the pitch) flattened out well”, said Matthews.

His quick 50 off 37 balls, paired with 38 from Corey Hunter saw the Marlins coast on to post 6/169. For the Dingoes it was skipper Steve McGiffin and Michael Topp were the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets each.

The Darling Dingoes went to work quickly with the chase with Nick King and Chris Gillam, before Sam Truloff came to the crease. It was ominous signs early, before Truloff steadied the ship with Blake Maher. It was Aaron Somerfield, the South Australian all-rounder, who stared with the ball taking 3/20 off his four overs. Despite his efforts to stop the partnership of Truloff and Maher, they took the game deep and batted the innings out.

Playing QLD 2nd XI cricket together, Maher said “we’re experienced grade cricketers… in every situation”. Truloff credited Maher’s big hitting as the perfect pairing for his “noodling” it around to chase down the big total.

Blake Maher and Sam Truloff combined for a 133-run partnership, successfully chasing the Marlins total of 168 with 7 wickets and 10 balls to spare. This sent the Darling Dingoes to the top of the BPL leaderboard with three games left for the afternoon.
